Is there a way to disable videos on android?

Main Post:

I sometimes get sucked into watching those short videos on facebook or youtube, and I want to make that impossible. There seems to be no way to completely turn them off in either facebook or youtube so they don't show up. Anyone know of a way to accomplish this?

Or if not, is there another way on android to disable video playback entirely? I don't need to use my phone for videos anyway.

Top Comment: Anything you can do to disable videos, you can easily undo. If you lack self control, it won't help.

What's missing for a video to pop off if it's not just stats?

Main Post:

Everyday, there's questions of how a video won't pop off despite higher CTR and AVD than usual. Something keeps making newtubers feel like all videos should only stop being recommended if a mix of low ctr and low avd is hit. But we get countless posts of, "How come my video with 8% CTR died at 500 views while my video with 5% CTR got 10k views while having almost the same AVD?"

It's evident a video doesn't just pop off just because of CTR and AVD. Then what else is missing for it to pop off?

Top Comment: People clicking on videos and people watching videos are still the main things that make a video succeed, however, what causes a person to click on a video and what causes a person to actually watch it could be one of thousands of factors, many of which are out side of our control. Analytics like CTR and AVD can be misleading and have to be taken in the proper context. For example, lets say you have 1000 subscribers. YouTube sends your video to all of them and 200 of them click it. That's a 20% CTR, which is very high. Due to that strong feed back, YouTube sends your video out to 1000 non-subscribers, but none of them click on it. Overall you still got 200 clicks out of 2000 impressions, which is a 10% CTR which sounds high, but this video is unlikely to be suggested much more because no one outside of your core subscribers clicked on it. So CTR could still be the issue, it's just that the front facing number is misleading. Roughly the same argument can be made about AVD. Your core audience may watch for long periods, but whenever YouTube shows the video to others, they don't watch much or at all. IMO YouTube should change or add more context to these statistics because they are very misleading, especially for smaller creators. One suggestion is to look at your views from subs vs views from non subs. If you see that you're getting no views from non subs, this could explain why your video is not being pushed out more. (For some reason YouTube does not show us impressions or CTR separated by subscribe status, which I think would be helpful.) This is why I think it is not useful to hyperfocus on analytics, and instead just focus on making good, appealing content. These numbers don't mean anything outside of the proper context. The only number you should pay attention to is views. If you don't get views, then make better videos and better titles and thumbnails. That's it.
